The past two days in math we have been focusing on reviewing addition strategies. We looked at an addition table and sorted/color coded facts by strategy. We also modeled them on our number rack! Some different strategies include:
Make Ten: 6 + 4, 7 + 3, 10 + 0
Add Zero: 9 + 0, 0 + 3
Count On: 7 + 1, 2 + 3, 1 + 4, 5 + 2
Doubles: 6 + 6, 7 + 7
Doubles Plus or Minus One: 6 + 7, 5 + 4
Add Ten: 10 + 3, 4 + 10
Add Nine: 4 + 9, 9 + 7
The next few days we will be looking at a subtraction table and reviewing different subtraction strategies.
To practice our addition strategies we learned a game called Make the Sum. It is the first of our math workplaces from the Bridges 2.0 curriculum. Workplaces are a way to practice the skills we learn during math through games and activities. Ask your child if they remember how to play Make the Sum, or what their target number was today!
