We are just about to wrap up our fifth unit in math, which has focused on multiplication and division. Part of this unit has looked at area of rectangles and how creating an array can relate to multiplication and division. Today, the third graders were given square units and asked to find the area of different surfaces of our classroom! It got interesting when they didn't have enough square units to cover the entire surface they were trying to measure. They had to use their knowledge of arrays and multiplication to help them out!
We also had a presentation by Jennifer Borch, an ELL teacher at Fleming, who shared information with us about refugee camps as part of our unit on culture. She shared two different picture books with us about kids who had to resettle because of different situations in their home countries. Lastly, we used some third grade experts from Summit to share their personal experiences with the resettlement process.
