Flynn, Persuasive Writing and Friendship Day
We had a busy day! We started off by going to see Momix at the Flynn! We had a special guest (Mrs. Cate) join us for our field trip!
We launched our new writing unit today! We are moving into opinion/persuasive writing! This group loves to tell me their opinion so this unit should be a lot of fun! Today, they had to write me a letter trying to convince me why we should have 5 extra minutes of recess! They had some great reasons! We learned that to be more convincing it is not enough to just list reasons, you have to explain them!
Enjoying our extra time outside!
We ended the day with our friendship card exchange!

100th Day, Mystery Skype, Flynn Reminder and 10,000 Sunband Reveal
***Reminder: We have our Flynn field trip Monday morning! We will be boarding the bus at 8:30am so be sure to arrive on time. We will be returning to school by lunch time.
***We reached our goal of 10,000 sunbands today and found out that our whole school is going bowling next Friday. The bus will be leaving promptly at 8:30 so you need to be at school by 8:15am. See Friday Folders for more details! WE ARE VERY EXCITED!
We had a special guest at the end of the day today! Ms. Farrington's son came and played a few songs while we were stacking and packing!
Yesterday, we celebrated the 100th day of school! We started the day off with a fun assembly led by Mrs. Manz's class! Mrs. Gruendling had a really silly 100th day topper sticking out of her head!
This afternoon, we had our first mystery Skype! We were trying to figure out where in the world the class on the computer was located using our amazing map skills! We figured out it was Mrs. Crannell's 5th grade class right outside of Portland, Oregon. (Mrs. Crannell used to teach 3rd grade at Summit Street School!)
Ms. P (Ms. Bergstrom's student teacher) did a great job helping us remember the questions we had already asked!

Big Change Round Up and Kindergarten Buddies
This morning, Ms. Trombley and her second graders came to tell our class about the Big Change Round Up! Her class is collecting donations to raise money for the University of Vermont Medical Center's Children Hospital.
This afternoon, we had time with our Kindergarten Buddies! When we walked in, the Kindergarteners were counting their sunbands so we jumped in to help! Today we heard the clue for collecting 6,000 sunbands. 4,000 to go!
Then Ms. Hamilton read us a friendship day story!
Ms. Luce read another friendship story!
And then we decorated bags to collect friendship cards in next week!

Guest Author
Today we got to have our workshop time with Abbie Bowker, guest author and Summit parent! She taught us about writing haiku poetry. We learned that haiku is about observing a moment in time. We looked at different pictures of nature and wrote and illustrated our own haiku poems. We got to do this with our Kindergarten buddies so it was even better!
As we are getting ready for the 100th day of school next week, third graders wrote 100 things we love about Summit Street School! Come check out some of the things we love in the front lobby!

10,000 Sunband Challenge
I am guessing you have already heard but Summit Street School is in the midst of a challenge to collect 10,000 sunbands. When we reach our goal there is a special 10,000 sunband celebration for the whole school! Every 1,000 that we collect, Mrs. Gruendling is giving us a clue! Today our class got to announce the 3,000 sunband clue over the announcements! So far the clues have been very sneaky and we have no idea what the celebration could be! Ask your child how many sunbands our class collected each day!
