Welcome back!

Can you believe we have less than 35 school days left of this year?! This year is flying by! We have many exciting activities and learning opportunities planned for the rest of this year! 

Today Beth Moore came and spent some time with our class kicking off the last Reader's Workshop unit we will do this year. Beth Moore comes to do professional development with the teachers at Summit several times a year and today she modeled a lesson in our classroom! She taught us how to organize books within our research clubs. We looked at and evaluated each book, then put them in order from easiest to hardest. Then we started to look for subtopics within the books to see what subtopics we might see across many books on the same topic! 

I will be sending a calendar home in the next couple of weeks with end of the year dates on it to try and keep track of all the different events we have going on! Be looking in Friday Folders! 

Friday Fun!

We had a great last day before break! In math, we have been working on fractions so we decided to make rainbow fraction sticks to carry in the color parade. We did a great job figuring out the length needed, measuring and cutting. However, I was surprised at how challenging tying a ribbon on a stick was for most of the third graders! Glad we got to squeeze some fine motor practice in!

Flynn Theatre

We had an amazing trip to the Flynn Theatre today! So lucky that this gets to be one of our field trip experiences!

Flynn Trip Tomorrow

Just a reminder that we will be leaving school around 11:15am tomorrow and returning around 1:45pm to attend a performance at the Flynn Theatre!

Remember to bring a lunch from home if you didn't order one from school!

I cannot believe there is only a week until April break! This spring is absolutely flying by. Some information for upcoming events:

Tuesday April 12: SBAC ELA Testing (8:45-10:15)

Wednesday April 13: SBAC ELA Testing (8:45-10:15)

Thursday April 14: Flynn Trip (11:15-1:45ish) Please remember to bring a cold lunch if you did not order one from the lunchroom.

Friday April 15: Free Book Day and Color Parade

We are still looking for book donations. If you have been doing some spring cleaning of your bookshelves and found any early reader/early chapter books please consider sending them into school.

At 1:30pm on Friday, we will be having a Summit Street School Color Parade. We will be walking the block of Summit Street, down Prospect, to 2A, up Pearl and back to Summit. Please wear BRIGHTLY COLORED clothing for this school celebration!

*I am looking for student led conference sign up sheets to be returned to school so we can arrange a schedule for that exciting day!

Skating Round 2

SBAC Reminder: We will be teaching the Performance Task Monday morning.
Tuesday and Wednesday morning (8:45-10:15) we will be taking the ELA tests.

Thursday April 14th: We have our trip to the Flynn in the afternoon.

Last Thursday morning, we enjoyed our second round of skating! We got to have the whole ice rink to ourselves for most of our time! We had a BLAST! Thanks to Mrs. Hutton who organizes the ice skating trips! And thanks to Sean's mom for coming and helping!

Vermont Youth Strings

Last Wednesday we enjoyed a performance from the Vermont Youth Strings orchestra. It was a wonderful performance! We got to learn all about the different instruments in the string orchestra. Mr. Ali, who directs the Vermont Youth Strings orchestra, also happens to be the strings teacher at Fleming which was exciting for the soon to be fourth graders to hear! After they finished their performance, they let us try out their instruments.

Skating!
